Manuela Sáenz was my great-great-grand mother's half sister. My ancestors were the last Viceroys of Perú. This is a fascinating story about a powerhouse woman, vilified and lionized by Venezuelan and Ecuadorian historians alike; she influenced Simón Bolivar with her dynamism and idealism but mostly with her passionate love and admiration. For some she was "the power behind the throne;" and she embodied the South Americans' yearnings of independence from Spain.

Fascinating time and life of Bolivar

This seemed a very good history of South America and Bolivar. I previously knew very little. The difficulties Bolivar faced in geography alone was rather amazing.
It has been a few years since I read this so it is not completely fresh.
Someone from South America mentioned it was a common history book for college there.
A very interesting story of a real life on a man who liberated South America from the rule of Spain.
