I just finished Love and Exile and I am impressed by this masterpiece... reading this biography you can relate and understand many of his books and most important feel the truth behind them...The book is very descriptive with how much misery and problems he dealt, sometimes is sad and haunting.... It physically hurts when the books ends having so many questions... It's essential reading for any Isaac Singer devote reader...

USE ANOTHER BOOK

Warning, this book has multiple issues that make me highly recommend not purchasing. I own the book and feel it is so poorly written and the ideas are so poorly described that I do not feel this information should be passed on to anyone, thus when I am done with my class I will burn this book. Here are some of the issues with the book:
Poorly defines variables and equations;
Graphs and figures are poorly described and detailed;
Example values that are given in the book are not explained or the method of calculation is not given;
Examples are poorly described, numbers are given with no definition or description or where they came from;
Variables have multiple meanings in the same example;
Examples are explained out of order from what is taught in the text;
Equations are poorly organized and described;
Questions at end of chapter use variable not described in the chapter;
Units are missing from many numbers, causing confusion of what they are;
Book makes assumptions about the reader that might not be true;
Book includes notes that are unpublished or not peer-reviewed;
Adds unnecessary variables;
There are not enough numerical examples to demonstrate ideas/points equations.

Some suggestions to improve this book:
Add about 40+ pages and separate equations and examples from the text, fully describe parts of the equation and how they interact and relate;
Have numerical examples for different problems.

I have only read about 1/3 of the book so far and have found these issues. USE ANOTHER BOOK!

About the Author
Chris McDaniel (MBA, Liberty University) is an account executive for vTECH io, a Dell channel partner that provides end-to-end IT solutions. Prior to this role Chris served as the chief business development officer for DELTA Ministries International, an ECFA member that supports U.S. and international churches by specializing in short-term and mid-term missions. In this role, Chris lived out his passion to see followers of Christ become generous givers, which has fueled over nine hundred churches and 7,500 individuals to share the love of Christ in over seventy countries since 2002. He is also a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force Reserves. Chris is the author of Ignite Your Generosity, The Stewardship Bookmark, Dying to Give and The Next Mile: A Coach's Guide. He is also a contributing author to the curriculum for short-term mission teams from The Next Mile, a collaborative effort from mission agencies and organizations to offer practical tools and training for short-term mission experiences. What if...there were so many men and women in your organization's "generous givers" circle--that when you reviewed possible future board member prospects, you had ten times more qualified candidates than open spots?

What if...before your organization mailed the monthly appeal letter, hundreds and hundreds of generous givers--prompted by the Holy Spirit--sent in their checks and made online gifts BEFORE you asked for the contribution?

What if...the stories of sacrificial giving in your church were so numerous--and so life-changing--that a revival broke out even before your pastor broke out his sermon?

What if...God prompted you to use the funds you've saved for a special "this is for me" purchase...and you diverted the money to a friend in need? No fanfare. No name. No tax deduction. And...what if you realized that this act of generosity (and obedience) actually produced more joy than your original plan?

Day 1: A 20-something receives a company car and so he tries to sell his personal vehicle. No buyers. He prays. God speaks: "What are you going to do with the money if I sell your car?" Oops! Plan B kicks in. His deal: "OK, God, if you sell my car, I'll give a sizeable portion to this [needy] family." No surprise--car sells. Anonymous cash delivered to needy family. No surprise--immense joy experienced by a young steward.

Day 13: (You gotta read this one!) In the late 1800s, a young girl in a Pennsylvania church, Hattie May Wiatt, was prompted by God to begin saving money for a larger church building. Yet she dies in her youth. Good news: the pastor took the 57 cents she had saved and inspired his congregation to multiply that into $250--and the multiplication continued so that by 1912, the church had expanded and grown to over 5,600 members.

Day 14: A graduate school student learns the power and joy of giving monthly (in six-month specific commitments) rather than writing just one check--and being done with it. The author says that igniting the generosity gift also involves faithfulness and asks, "When you think of wanting to become more faithful, what is one thing you believe God is nudging you about?"

The author notes that the contract for the rock band Van Halen required that the host venue provide a bowl of M&Ms backstage, but with every single brown M&M removed. Why? That strange request was stuck in Article 126 of the detailed contract regarding stage set-up logistics. If the band's stage crew arrived and found brown M&Ms, then they conducted a thorough safety check--because it was likely the host had not read and implemented other more critical contract requirements. So McDaniel asks on Day 5 of the 21-day journey, "Can You Be Trusted?"

So what if...instead of hassling givers, manipulating givers and shaming givers, our churches and nonprofit ministries actually INSPIRED givers and challenged their heads and hearts with Scriptures and stories--so that their check writing and online giving would be prompted by their attentive ears to the Holy Spirit's nudges?

This box set by M.S. Parker will entice you into finishing it as quickly as you can. This is Xavier ( goes by X) and Nouri's story and it is written with finesse. If your are a fan of BDSM stories this one has a twist that will surprise you. The Dom in these books are usually male and the sub is female. Due to the extent of X 's burns Nouri is teaching him how to be a Dom to give him back an element of control in his life.

X who is in the military was badly burned in a warehouse fire in a civilian accident which ended his career. On the day of the fire he lost everything that mattered to him. Nouri was his nurse from his admittance to the hospital through his discharge. Both of them were becoming quite attached to each other during this time but would not acknowledge it to themselves or each other. They both have secrets and past hurts that keep them apart.

When X is discharged he returns to his home in Philadelphia and when the priest who is his only family contacts Nouri to come to take care of him that's when sparks begin to fly. Into all of this add Nouri's ex-boyfriend and their mutual attraction that neither one is willing to bring out into the open. This story is extremely well-written and entertaining. The way M.S. Parker weaves all aspects of the story to the conclusion will keep you on your toes. Since I do not believe in giving any spoilers away I will let you know that this book is worth your effort.

Very very touching and beautiful book

Glad i wanted to read these as a boxed set! M. S. Parker this set rocks. Please note folks if you are thinking that this set is about Dom/Sub relationship than this might not be the one for you. This book is about a brave solider who while home on leave, saves the life of a boy and a man in a burning building. Because of this he was hurt badly. He was taken home to Philly by the priest who had basically raised him later in life.

One of the nurses at the hospital in Texas would sit by his bed and talk to him. It seemed that they had a connection even when Xavier or X was not able to speak. Nori later would come to Philly to care for X in many ways.

The Dom part of this book might throw you off a bit but for me it is really cool and loving and in a way it is how I think many folks find their inter-self or kink.
I highly recommend this book.

MS Parker this has to be the most emotionally charged book that you have written, the ups and downs had my heart all over the place.

I have to admit that after reading book one I was a little confused about how Xavier, aka X, fit into the title of the book, but once I started reading the next books in the series, it all started to make sense and this book did not disappoint.

Nori and X have moved to the top of my most loved couples from MS Parker, they both have emotional baggage that is holding them back from giving into each other and for X its also that he thinks he does not deserve to have something as amazing as someone like Nori. Running hot and cold with each other seems to be the norm for X and Nori, and then even colder when Nori's ex shows up and confesses that he wants her back. The ups and downs between Nori and X will pull at your heartstrings and have you crossing your fingers hoping that Nori and X will realize how perfect they are for each other.

Will things work out between Nori and X, or is it too late for them?

Without a doubt this is the best opening book to start with, and possibly the only one you might need for quite a while. Oh how I wish this had been available when I started out. What's the first thing a beginner does (ignoring all advice)? He starts surveying all the openings to find a few that he likes (and then changes his mind repeatedly). Before this book that involved buying a book on each opening, at great expense, both of money and time. That's no longer necessary - you can buy this one and get all you need for that purpose. It does expect some experience, but no more than any opening book does.

The book reminds me alot of Watson's Mastering the Chess Openings, except that it's much broader and less deep. It's far less selective and sophisticated than Watson, but it's not superficial at all given the target audience. It gives very good explanations of the general themes, historical development, and early move orders of pretty much every opening you could want, although it does have a strong focus on mainlines. For a beginner or intermediate, this book will give you enough theory to get started - your first half dozen moves with some deviations - but not enough to distract you from tactics and endgames. Coaches should love it. I'm sure they would tell you it's all you need until you are an expert.

The book is targeted at non-Masters. It's perfect for beginners to intermediates - I would say this is an essential book for beginner to Class C. Higher class players would still get a lot of value as a reference for unfamiliar openings they encounter and for broadening their repertoires, but I suspect an Expert would get diminished value from it. It has 450 some pages of large page size and has a huge amount of prose for each bit of analysis.

I bought this expecting to be disappointed by superficiality, but I was wrong. After the fact, it's hard to imagine this book hasn't existed until now. Thank you Grandmaster van der Sterren. Thank you Gambit.

Update: I find myself immersed in this thing all the time - it's addictive. I defy anybody in the target audience to read about their favorite opening and not learn something.

A modern version of "The ideas behind the chess openings"

This book is a miracle. It's fills a gap between more simple opening encyclopedia like Seirawan's "Winning chess openings", Collins "Understanding the chess openings" and specific opening books. This book is in fact a modern and a more advanced version of Ruben Fines "The ideas behind the chess openings". And lower rated chess players (below 1800) should understand the chess opening plans, rather than memorizing openings.

Many chess players (improvers and club players) have bought a book on a given opening, for later find that opening not suitable for them, a waste of money. So in the beginning of your chess career, you should instead buy only one book.

This book!

As an example, this book will probably give you the same introduction and plans in the Sicilian opening, as Emms "Starting Out-The Sicilian", "Fundamental chess openings" contains almost 60 pages with plans and information about the Sicilian opening. That's more than enough for player rated below 1800.

Say goodbye to shelves of chess books

This book is outstanding in every way (apart from the awful 'FCO' title) and provides substantial coverage of ALL chess openings. It addresses both understanding and specific moves and gives lots of unusually well written explanation. In addition it is, I think, superior to comparable alternatives. For example: Watson is far less comprehensive (despite 4 vols), has big gaps e.g. Petroff, and his coverage is both uneven and less practical; Djuric et al is far less deep (despite 4 vols); Collins, though good and comprehensive, is considerably shorter and less focused on understanding; Kallai, though good, is focused primarily on moves; Fine is hopelessly out of date and, in addition, not good. Sterren's opening book is a marvel which makes shelves of my introductory opening titles redundant.

This was by far the best pretest that I have seen all year

This was by far the best pretest that I have seen all year. The explanations are practically on a level with UWORLD and were very helpful for review during the last couple of weeks in the clerkship. The questions are relevant to the topics you will see covered on the shelf and fill in the small gaps left behind by UWORLD. I would highly suggest buying this book. For the shelf I used First Aid Step 2 CK (all of the sections except pediatrics, ob/gyn, psych, ambulatory, and emergency), UWORLD (all IM questions), and this book and I scored a 98 on the shelf.

Priceless in helping "Mankind's Most Frequent Syndrome."

Be aware that the author is not a medical physician. He knows it too, and recommends people who think they might have this get either an endoscopy or upper GI X-ray. If the hiatal hernia is there ,it will be found as well as its size. Also if an ulcer is present that will be seen too.

The hiatal hernia often imbalances the vagus nerve. This nerve is massive and has branches that go to the heart, lungs and other crucial organs. This is probably how so many symptoms can arise from the hiatal hernia. It's the vagus nerve imbalance doing it. There's a good correction for the vagus nerve in the book, and of course, much on preventing the problem in the first place.

In case you don't know, having a hiatal hernia means that the top part of the stomach has gone thru the opening in the diaphragm meant only for the esophagus to go thru. The author says half of us may be walking around with this problem, and that he found that in people with chronic illness or allergy-like illnesses as many as 90% of these sufferers may have this syndrome. Its been linked to anxiety, high Blood Pressure, several heart problems, like afib, tachycardia. Also linked are asthma, and sleep apnea according to this book. There is great new sleep apnea section. I have read this book in all 3 of its editions. It keeps getting better and better.

The new spiral coil binding is cool. It's a great help to lay the book flat and do the illustrated corrections. The instructions are crystal clear. Sure help me each time I do `em. There are 15 illustrated corrections for the hiatal hernia, the vagus nerve and the diaphragm, as well as the "pull down." But there are 2 trigger points shown that may be substituted for the pull down, as some people may feel worse from the "pull down." The author says to simply start out gently.

The diet and lifestyle changes include eating small meals and elevating the top of the bed. But those are just the beginning of the book's many recommendations. Make sure to do them.

Linked to the hiatal hernia syndrome according to Rochlitz is the PFO (Hole in the Heart). That's another book by the author, where it turns out that one of three people may have that common heart defect. Rochlitz says that if the hiatal hernia or vagus nerve imbalance causes high BP or racing heart, it may mean the person also has the PFO. This makes it more important (after a medical check-up) that the person learn to keep their hiatal hernia and vagus nerve in check.

this is a waste of money. There are 52 pages of 'information' which can be found on the internet. This paperback cost me $41.58. Please save your money and check online first...the information can be found online FREE.

“Hiatal Hernia Syndrome / Vagus Nerve Imbalance” comes with a blast of information, like no other. The book exhaustively explains everything there is to know about the massive, wandering Vagus Nerve. The book explains that when it’s imbalanced, many health problems can spin off from that, including the Hiatal Hernia Syndrome, high blood pressure, several heart problems, anxiety, asthma, sleep apnea, to name just a few.

The most amazing part of this masterpiece, is the fact that anyone can rectify the Hiatal Hernia and calm the vagus nerve oneself, just by following the explicit illustrated corrections in Section II of the book. This book is definitely great value for the money!

About the Author

James O. Aldrich (Doctor of Public Administration, University of Laverne) is a retired lecturer on statistics and research methods at California State University, Northridge. He has served as the principal investigator and co-director of a National Cancer Institute research project. He held the appointment of Instructor   in the Department of Pathology at the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He has served on various committees for the Los Angeles chapter of the American Statistical Association and has also taught biostatistics, epidemiology, social statistics, and research methods courses for 20 years. The primary statistical software used for his coursework has been SPSS. Sage recently published (2013) Building SPSS Graphs to Understand Data co-authored with Hilda M. Rodriguez.

James B. Cunningham (PhD in Science Education, Syracuse University) is Professor Emeritus of Science and Computer Education and former chair of the Department of Secondary Education at California State University, Northridge. Formerly chair of the Departments of Science and Mathematics in Washington State high schools, he is author of Teaching Metrics Simplified and co-author of BASIC for Teachers, Authoring Educational Software, Hands-On Physics Activities With Real-Life Applications, and Hands-On Chemistry Activities With Real-Life Applications. He used SPSS extensively during his tenure as director of the Credential Evaluation Unit in the College of Education. He is currently a Fellow in the Center for Teaching and Learning at California State University, Northridge.

Clear, powerful, and extremely helpful

SPSS is a marvelous tool, but it's only as powerful as the user's knowledge and understanding of it. And because I didn't understand the true depth of this tool, I was not using it to its full potential. Then I got this book, by Aldrich and Cunningham, and after cruising through just one chapter, I already knew so much more. After having gone through the whole book, chapter by chapter, I feel like I've entered a whole new world of handling data and statistics. The great thing about this book is that it is easy to read and understand, and the visual elements help out a lot. I'd highly recommend it.
