It works - sort of.

The clock was fun to build and actually functioned - but it has some problems. Cutting the gears & wheels requires a precision that is difficult to achieve given the width of the printed lines. The internal "clutch" that drives the gears & allows rewinding of the strings worked perfectly for a while but then began to slip causing the weight to drop to the end of the string. Some suggestions:

* Expect to go through four or five blades.
* Elmer's Craftbond 1-Ounce Memory Glue Pen works very well for this.
* It's the + with four dots that indicates the use of a bearing.
* Use straight wire instead of trying to straighten paper clips for axles.
* Use a size 0 knitting needle for indicated axles.
* Prepare axles first and use them to poke holes in the various parts. Cut them a little longer han indicated.
* Poke holes in ALL pieces as indicated before gluing them to another and make sure you make the holes big enough to begin with. On the frame, alignment errors can be adjusted during assembly.
* Score and cut in the center of straight lines.
* Score and cut on the outside of the lines of circles, wheels and gears. You can trim wit small scissors later if needed.
* Don't curl piece 41. It's the internal clutch that drives the wheels. Just gently wrap it around and cover with piece 42.
* Align the teeth of the Motor Wheel very carefully when assembling it.
* Use glue sparingly on the wheels and gears to minimize warping.
* Always weigh down gears/wheels while glue drys and make sure you wait until it's really dry.
* You can use BBs in the weight.
* Use a thin or narrow rubber band.
* Use thin (but strong) string.
* Be patient! Take your time.
* Have fun!!

Good study model

This is an interesting design for a clock. I put mine together in about a month (working several hours a night). When I noticed a couple of design flaws. The gears are not going to mesh very well, no matter how well you put it together. Also, since you must use wire for the pivots the clock hands are going to be extremely difficult to get to move properly since you cannot securely fasten the gears to the pivots. However, it looks great when you finish it! I did not put the cover on because I like to see the gears. Since I don't use mine as a clock I painted the gears and use it as reference for when I build wooden clocks. If you want to make a working clock I strongly suggest looking into making a wooden one. There are lots of free plans available online. I recommend a website called Gary's Wooden Clocks. This website has lots of information, tips, clock plans, downloads and links for the clock building enthusiast.

In short, this is a good introduction to clock making but is not its self a good clock.

The book analyses these incidents systematically, discussing their nature, causes and outcomes. It shows the wide range of protests – tax riots, land and labour disputes, disputes within companies, including private and foreign companies, environmental protests and ethnic clashes – and shows how the nature of protests has changed over time. The book argues that the protests have been prompted by the socioeconomic transformations of the last decade, which have dislocated many individuals and groups, whilst also giving society increased autonomy and social freedom, enabling many people to become more vocal and active in their confrontations with the state. It suggests that many protests are related to corruption, that is failures by officials to adhere to the high standards which should be expected from benevolent government; it demonstrates how the Chinese state, far from being rigid, bureaucratic and authoritarian, is often sensitive and flexible in its response to protest, frequently addressing grievances and learning from its own mistakes; and it shows how the multilevel responsibility structure of the Chinese regime has enabled the central government to absorb the shock waves of social protest and continue to enjoy legitimacy.

Dorothy Enderson started her writing career back in school. She led a column in the school newspaper, choosing topics for articles, relying on her knowledge and interests of friends. Proven steps

Most people in their lives have lost a lover that they truly believe was the one, and there is no forgetting someone like that. I got really touched by the book because in each page I felt like I was reading my story. I really want my ex-boyfriend back to me because I really love him and he is my first boyfriend. I really want him back but I don’t know what to do. read it and love it!

Ties that bind, ties that break

An excellent story about the true tradition and history of china. Taking us through this fascinating novel is the superb main character, Ailin Tao. As you get more into the book you learn to love, and admire Ailin, because of her braveness, and actions through out this great novel. I would recommend this amazing book to those people who like to read about true breaking stories. I believe the author wanted to intoduce us to this Chinese story by ushering us into a wealthy Chinese family, with a little 5-year-old girl walking us through her foot binding problems. Ailin has 2 sisters, a baby brother, mother and a father and grandmother that are the only two who really understand her best. Ailin is to be married to Hanwei Lui, which was organized by her grandmother, but was broken off when ailin refused to bind her feet. It seemed to Ailin that after the foot-binding incident everything went down hill, because of her grandmother's death.
Through out all this happening, Ailin starts going to a public school, which was very weird for Chinese girl to do. She has a great time leaning English and socializing with other people than the ones in her house. After her father dies of tuberculosis her malevolent, inferior Big Uncle is in charge of the family and will no longer pay the tuition for Ailin's school. To Big Uncle paying school for a GIRL is a waste. Now Ailin has to find a way to support herself because since her feet are not bound nobody will marry her, which means no one, is supporting her.

Rebelling against tradition

"Ties That Bind, Ties That Break", by Lensy Namioka, was a great novel on a 1911, wealthy Chinese girl who rebells against the ancient Chinese tradition of foot binding - and learns the consequences.
Headstrong, playful Ailin, when 5 years old, is told she must begin to bind her feet. However, when she sees how her sister was crippled, she refuses, and her loving father said that she doesn't have to.
Later, when her father dies, her uncle becomes head of the household, and he gives now 12 year old Ailin three choices, since the boy she was betrothed to broke their engagement because of her unbound feet. But Ailin doesn't like the choices for a girl with "big" feet - she wants something more to do with her life.
This was a great book on a strong girl not so very long ago, and I'd recommend this book for ages 12 and up. I'd also definitely recommend "Shabanu", by Staples, about another girl who's against tradition, and must learn the consequences.

Fascinating subject, historical fiction, great book for all!

This novel begins with a prologue set in San Francisco's Chinatown in 1925. Ailin is the young wife of a Chinese restaurant owner, and someone from her childhood past in China enters the restaurant. They begin to talk, and Ailin thinks back to what has led her to where she is today... In 1911, China was undergoing political and cultural changes. The empire was falling, and outsiders from the West were becoming more common. Namioka skillfully weaves this change through Ailin's story. Ailin is five, and not docile and quiet as upper-class girls should be. Her mother and grandmother feel it is time for her to have her feet bound, as she is now betrothed to the seven-year-old son of another wealthy family. But when Ailin sees how deformed and painful her older sister's bound feet are, she is shocked. Knowing she will not be able to run or even really walk again, Ailin protests. Her indulgent father allows her to keep her feet unbound, even though it results in the cancellation of her betrothal. Later, he enrolls her in a public school run by missionaries where she learns to speak English, unusual for girls at the time. However, before Ailin can graduate, her loving father dies, leaving her old-fashioned uncle as head of the family. He tells her that he can no longer afford to send her to school, and gives the twelve-year-old three unsuitable options, all remnants of the repressive past. She refuses them all, and is forced to come up with a way to support herself. The rest of the book takes Ailin to a world unknown to her, that of working class China, and later on a voyage to America. The details are realistic and Ailin develops strength of character from her experiences. An author's note at the end discusses the history of foot-binding and other customs that women worldwide have endured in the name of tradition or fashion. Indeed, it makes you wonder why people pierce or tattoo their bodies to fit into today's society. The book is aimed at teens ages 12 to 16, but I would even recommend it for adults. The subject is fascinating, there is great attention to historical detail, and the emotion shines through.

A powerful book, full of love!

A beautiful little book, full of sweetness and love and most practical for inspiring a deep love for Our Lord Jesus. I have been greatly influenced by it. The book is now a classic on Eucharistic devotion, published in various languages. I don't know of any such book that compares with it in quality except some of the best writings of St. Alphonsus de Liguori.

About the Author

Very Nice Edition

I relied on the Denzinger-Schonmetzer 36th edition for years while waiting for this edition to come out, and I am overjoyed to see it arrive at last.

This edition contains documents up through Dignitas personae (2008) in both original languages and English. The pages are large and thin (Bible paper) with two-column layout. This edition is missing the occasional critical notes about textual variants which the DS has. There are historical introductions, footnotes, and a series of indices (including a good systematic index).

The helpful introduction to this edition explains clearly its organization, history, and the choices that were made in editing and translating it.

The doctrinal portions of documents from Vatican II are included.

As far as I can ascertain, what is contained in the DS 36th edition is almost completely present in this edition. The numbering is mostly (though not completely) consistent with the DS 36th edition.

This edition conveniently has a ribbon attached to the spine.

Drawbacks:

The indices (e.g., the Index of Persons and Subjects) are almost completely in English. I don't consider this a serious disadvantage, but it could prove to be an occasional inconvenience.

The paper is thin, so it is occasionally a bit hard to read because of the text showing through to the other side. Again, a minor inconvenience at worst.

A wonderful edition of an essential text

For the priest or studious layperson, the Denzinger is an essential text for reference purposes. If you're wondering about a particular definitive statement in the Church's past, Denzinger will always be the first (and often last) place you need to look.

The typeset is wonderful, it's easy to read, and I love the fact that this edition includes the parallel Latin.

The only minor negative here is that the paper is rather thin, in that it resembles your traditional old-school bible page. I call this a minor negative, because the page strength/quality results in a rather slim volume for all the information it contains.

Otherwise, this is a flawless edition of a text I am never without.

Wonderful Update of a Classic

No serious Catholic should be without Denzinger and this edition provides an update through the Papacy of Benedict XVI in a nice Latin/English translation. The indexes are most helpful when looking up topics and the selection of documents is, as should be expected, excellent.

The type is small and the paper thin...but come on, what do you expect, it's an updated edition of Denzinger and it's massive!

Very Exciting Series

This has been a whirlwind series. Your emotions will be dragged all over the place. Strong, brave characters go though so much to be safe and happy own to be stricken down again. Looking forward to book 8 Cursed. Hoping for a happy ending for Taylor and Jessie.

The book started off with action and didn't let up. I can't wait to see what becomes of Taylor and Jesse's relationship as well as Taylor and Alexios'. Thank you Krissy for a great story.

Wow Chrissy, you did it again. I love this book, Taylor has been to hell and back and Tayor need to be with Jesse need to be together, They are soul mates. Tayor has the best friends and a great great grand mother Tabby who love her and Fake husband Alexios is spoiling everything. I can't wait until the end to find out what happens. These are some great books to read and they keep to on the edge, until you find out whats going to happen. Please let her have some peace. Thank you Chrissy
