Heat of Hot! magazine falls for plus sized gal.

Devilishly Wicked is a continuation of Kathy Love’s "Devilishly" series and is just as sexy and humorous as her two previous books. It stands alone well, but it does help to read the previous books just to know who the main players are. And kudos to Ms. Love for making the main character a plus size in a world of size twos!

The fourth book in the Demon Intelligence Agency series is a fun and fascinating read.

Georgia is the personal assistant to Tristan at HOT magazine and she is constantly fighting her attraction to him and she doesn't take his flirting with her serious, because she doesn't believe she is HOT material. Tristan is helping Satan with trying to take over the human realm through the beauty industry. There are a few things getting in his way, his attraction to Georgia and a few employees in the mailroom.

All the characters are fun and easily related to, especially Georgia and Tristan. The sparks between them fly off the pages as he tries to seduce her and she tries to fight it. Reading about the courtship between the two was an enjoyable ride as the author conveyed all the emotions and chemistry of the attraction. The sex scenes were steamy and well written.

The plot is well balanced with emotional and romantic elements as well as intrigue and humor. The author has created a quirky paranormal world that is fun and adventurous. The reader is kept laughing with snarky dialogue and humorous scenes and the reader is constantly surprised by the intrigue and twists in this smooth flowing story that keeps the reader entertained from beginning to end.

While the story is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone book. I have not read the first three yet, but I had no problem picking up the story line and I have definitely added them to my pile of books. The ending hints that there may be future books in this series or at least related to this series. If so, I will definitely be reading them.

Finola White is out and Tristan McIntyre is in to head up the demonic takeover of the human race through the fashion industry and specifically through HOT! magazine where he’s also in charge. However, Tristan is having a hard time concentrating on the takeover when his curvy quirky personal assistant is consuming his lust-driven thoughts. Well, he is a lust demon after all, but this obsession with Georgia Sullivan is something he’s not used to and it’s driving him crazy. Georgia is also having a hard time resisting her handsome sexy boss, but she believes he is just amusing himself when he flirts with her. If she didn’t need the money she makes at HOT! to support her grandmother she’d leave in a heartbeat before her heart gets broken.

I was wondering how I was going to like Tristan after reading about him in the other two Devilishly books, but it turns out I liked him and Georgia very much. This story is a very enjoyable read with humor, paranormal shenanigans going on and hot steamy goodness. While the story wraps up pretty well, the ending has me wondering if the series will continue or if this was just a trilogy. It can easily end with this one, but a slight opening was left to expand into another book or more if the author chooses.

For rifle enthusiasts as well as hunters

About the same year this book was first published Remington came out with the .222. It was instant death to the .22 Hornet, the K-Hornet, and the wildcats based on the 25-20 single shot case. In other words, much of the data in the book is way out of date. Modern components have also made the info for the 22/250 and 220 Swift pretty iffy. If you have no interest in cartridge history this book may not be for you. On the other hand, the chapters written by men who hunted the Southern swamps, the North woods, the Midwest prairies with center fire and rim fire .22 rifles are pretty good adventures, and the groundhog shooters of the East are well represented. Government trappers and predator hunters have fine tales of killing off the grey wolf and coyotes of the mountain West. Well, the wolves and coyotes are back, and modern components have caused a revival of the .22 Hornet, so those chapters are relevant again. These writers haven't a shred of PC---hawks are high on their hit list. You might end up longing for the days when the population was low enough that in many areas hunters could shoot 500+ crows per season out of trees without worrying where their missed shots might come down. Landis's writing style is literate and all stories are spun out with no concern for readers with attention deficits. I first read this book in high school and enjoyed it immensely. Fifty years later it proved to still be a good read. I tend to think of nostalgia as a disease, but this book makes me nostalgic for times I didn't get to live, and it feels good.

A 'Classic'...

A very enjoyable and informative book. The information and advice about .22 caliber rifles, ammunition, and the accurate shooting of same, as presented, is as timely now as it was when Charles Landis wrote this very useful book. It speaks to a by-gone era ...when accurate and fine .22 LR, .22 Hornet, and other .22 caliber 'wildcat' center-fire rifles of that period, all made of steel and walnut, were fashioned by true craftsmen ..and which were then 'tuned' and experimented with by their owners through careful ammunition and target-telescope selection of that period, to render incredibly-accurate small-game rifles.
The variety of small game animals and varmints available for hunting in the late '40's gets good coverage, as well as which loads were thought to be most suitable for each species. Hawks were unprotected back then and considered as much 'fair game', as were woodchucks, ground squirrels, etc.

About the Author
Charles Nelson joined the Marine Corps in 1934 and learned hand-to-hand combat, bayonet fighting and jiu-jitsu from, among others, Colonel Anthony J. Drexel Biddle. From Sergeant Kelly, who had been attached to the International Police in Shanghai, China, in the 1930s, he learned a unique fighting method based on Mongolian wrestling techniques intended to maim or cripple, which no one else in the United States was teaching at the time.

I really tried to like this book more!

Charles Nelson was a legend, and he had a fan club composed of some of the most seriously tough and experienced self defense experts in the world (including Carl Cestari, who by the time of his death had forgotten more than we will every know).

The intro to the book has a cool story about a smart kid who was going to show the old guy a thing or two and wound up eating carpet.

With a story like that, I dug in.

But the scope of techniques presented in these books is narrow, and the photos are poor quality and small.

And some of the choices Nelson made in his demonstrations seemed perfectly okay, and his execution also seemed okay for a very old man in poor condition.

But I just can't get enthusiastic about this book. With as much of a rep as Charles Nelson had gained, and as much experience and study as he'd put into self defense, I expected more.

I'm going to come back and reread this a few more times, but after a sincere effort I can't recommend it with any enthusiasm.

For civilian self defense for a beginner, read all the Tegner books in preference to this book.

For military hand to hand combat, read Fairbairn's Get Tough or All In Fighting, or Applegate's Kill or Get Killed, or Cold Steel by Styers (ignore his knife fighting and knife throwing chapters; the rest of the book is very good).

But this book, which was put together after Charles Nelson's death, just doesn't do his reputation justice. Either he wasn't a very good teacher (I don't believe that for a moment because too many people say too many good things about him and his teaching) or this book doesn't correctly represent his teaching.

Bear in mind that even a good teacher can turn out a not-so-great book.

If I find a lot of gold when I re-read this I'll edit this to point it out, But for now, I'd spend my money on a different book.

Old School Practicality

This book doesn't so much give a complete overview of the techniques and principles of the Charlie Nelson Method as it gives examples of how it is applied against a variety of specific attacks. That's not to knock it, but don't expect a super condensed explanation of basic methods like the first few sections of "Get Tough". Very useful on the whole. Mr. Nelson was obviously a master of his craft, who has influenced many other experts and teachers in the self defense business. Carl Cestari's foreword was also a very enjoyable read. Definitely worth reading for anyone with an interest in old school fighting methods.

I like the fact that Mr. Nelson points out that in a real fight they only thing a belt is good for is holding up your pants. People who take the martial arts have no idea what it means to fight for your life on the street or in combat. Mr. Nelson bursts their bubble in a good way in an effort to keep them safe.

An excellent choice for a bilingual approach

Spanish-English Contrasts is an excellent choice for teaching basic Spanish linguistics with the use of English linguistics as a basis. It is written in English which may make it inappropriate for some upper level Spanish classes/programs. It is easy to read and understand. It is very expansive and covers a lot of information in almost 400 pages. Some of it is less detailed that I would have liked, but it is good for use in a class where you want to cover all the bases in one semester or so. There are a lot of additions to this second edition. Overall, it is useful.

Excellent for advanced students, too

As an "advanced" student of Spanish, I am finding this book extremely helpful, I just wish I had stumbled on it several years ago. There are some grammatical concepts that become much clearer when explained in English, and this book does that. Highly recommended.

Great for Spanish Teachers

This book deals with the comparisons and contrasts of Spanish and English letter pronunciations. As a teacher, you can help students know the different sounds between Spanish and English letters. This is also helpful for bilingual speakers of English and Spanish who wish to improve their pronunciation skills. Many of these bilingual speakers often confuse Spanish sounds with those of English or vice versa. I hope the author comes up with the third edition!

About the Author

Mary Lee, Pharm. D., BCPS, FCCP, is Vice President, Chief Academic Officer for Pharmacy and Health Sciences Education, Midwestern University, and Professor of Pharmacy Practice, Chicago College of Pharmacy. Dr. Lee graduated with BS in Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science in 1976 and 1979, respectively, and completed a residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in 1977. She joined the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy in 1979, where she served as director of the drug information center and then clinical pharmacist to the urological surgery service at the hospital. In 1985, she was promoted to associate professor and from 1985-1990, she served as assistant dean of student affairs. In 1994, she became associate dean of Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy; and in 1998, she became dean. She served as dean of the College from 1998 through 2006.

Dr. Lee has published over 100 research manuscripts, book chapters, review articles, and short reports in peer-reviewed publications. She has served as an elected officer on the American College of Clinical Pharmacy Board of Regents, chair of the Clinical Section, American Pharmaceutical Association, Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science, and as chair or member of numerous committees of APhA, ACCP, and state pharmacy associations. She is considered an expert on pharmacological issues in urological diseases, has earned board certification in pharmacotherapy, has won numerous teaching awards, and is an invited speaker for many national and international meetings.

This was my Bible after my brothers returned from WWII. Later on the Boy Scout, "Handbook for Boys" became my Bible. Eventually the Holy Bible became my Bible. I am writing a WWII novel and this is my number one research choice for information about naval uniforms, pay, training and rules and regulations. It is an encyclopedia of everything from Morse code and semaphore signals to first aid and artillery projectile coding. The original owner, M.J. Kizer, marked it well as he didn't want to lose it. I'd like to know the places this book traveled after training.

In 1940 the United States Navy was an antiquated collection of well-built ships and slow but durable aircraft. These two features were to save countless lives in battle with an at-the-time superior foe ie; the Imperial Japanese Navy.

Never short on guts, the average 1940 Sailor was not prepared for W.W.II but how quickly things change. Five short years later we were the most powerful fleet EVER.

While the 1940 edition of the "BJM" differs greatly from the one I was issued in 1994, the core values of "Honor, Committment & Courage" have never changed. Pride isn't specifically listed but it's there nonetheless.

The "BJM" is a fascinating book for all the practical sailing knowledge it carries. It should be on every yacht owner's bookshelf. Tying knots, heaving lines, rules of the road (sea), etc. Plus it's just plain interesting to read.

A thin line

Really, Really revolves around a group of college students who are nearing graduation. As what comes after college starts playing on their minds, they start looking for ways to secure their post-college futures. When the fall out of a party places some of those plans into jeopardy, each friend's or acquaintance's true self begins to shine through causing some to question their beliefs and others to question whether they can stand by their beliefs. Really, Really's conclusion may or may not be what you would hope but it does really, really reflect a reality that is all too likely.

Plays should be transformative; they should leave an impression, perhaps cause a little discomfort, and force you to confront your assumptions and beliefs. Really, Really was mostly successful in this purpose. The script read well and helped capture a mood that was appropriate for the purpose, and as the dialogue and action unfolded, I was left on that very thin line between disgust and sadness. While I would stop short of calling it transformative, Really, Really will definitely leave you with a lot to ponder.
