These cards have CHANGED MY LIFE! they are superb in every way. I wake up in the morning and i choose a card and I focus on that card for the day and it enables me to accept all the blessings the Universe continues to provide to me!

I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone who needs that little extra lift in the morning and these definately set you up for the day and for the rest of your life!
I love them.

Something always positive to read first thing in the morning and thats all you need!! For Mind, Body, and Spiritual Healing, they have everything one would want to make your life a better existance.

One of My Best Purchases

I've heard about how good affirmation cards are. This is my first set, and probably the only one I will ever need. Some of the ones I've been focusing on are:

The perfect job finds me.
I trust in the perfection of Divine Timing and allow my life to unfold as it should.
I am patient with my needs, kind with my words, and respectful of my soft places.

They are divided into these categories: Emotional Health, Relationships, Environment, Physical Health, Spiritual Health, Work, and Prosperity. Definitely things I need positive affirmations for.

The background photos, Nature scenery and animals, are nice, also.

I highly recommend these.

Beautiful Cards, Well-Worded Affirmations... Love them!

My card set arrived today and I've just started using them (picked out about 5 cards to put around my computer while working.) The photos are gorgeous, featuring fantastic, soothing nature and animal scenes (Cat and dog lovers will love these cards!) The images echo the affirmations, which have concise, straightforward and wise messages addressing a variety of areas of life. This just may be my favorite card set, and I have quite a collection! I've often used affirmations with great success -- when I stick to them regularly, people invariably say within just a few days, "What's different? You seem so much more relaxed, or happy, or something... what are you doing?" No question that affirmations work; one just has to DO them regularly. This beautiful card set makes the process so much more inviting and I know this will translate to using them more consistently.

The only issue was that when I first took the cards out of the box, many of them did stick together because of the silver lining around the edges. It was not difficult to separate them but took a little time, and caused me to really notice the Silver Lining! What a great idea! This card set is beautiful, and I wholeheartedly give it 5 stars. (I love Cheryl Richardson and feel honored to have seen her live both before and after she got famous. Her wisdom and advice is always spot-on.)

Mishkin is Alfred Lerner Professor of Banking and Financial Institutions at the Graduate School of Business, Columbia University, Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, a past Executive Vice President and Director of Research at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and after finishing this book was appointed a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. He is the author of "The Next Great Globalization: How Disadvantaged Nations Can Harness Their Financial Systems to Get Rich" and other books.

Good Book, still has some errors.

This is a good textbook that really helped me gain a good understanding of monetary policy. It covers current topics such as inflation targeting, the Taylor principle, sterilized currency intervention and the zero lower bound. The book also covered supply and demand for investments and what factors cause supply and demand to increase and decrease.

I feel like I have a good grasp of what is going on currently inside the Fed. Bernanke is using inflation targeting and Mishkin is a proponent of the tactic. It also covered quantitative easing and the time preference theory of bond investment. I think I have a good grasp of the topic. Several chapters have appendices that are available for free online. Reading through those was an extra bonus when it came to test time.

The book did have a couple of errors. Sometimes it would be a slight grammar error or a slight math error. Sometimes it would say something that was completely the opposite of what it said in the next sentence. Fortunately there was enough content that I was able to work through these but to notice an error every 50 pages or so was grating. A book in its tenth edition should not have these issues.

Because I found this book to be a great supplement to my macroeconomic studies I'll rate it highly. For the crazy prices that publishers charge for textbooks, this book deserves another rundown from the editors.

Absolutely excellent teacher; learned so much from this book!

This is a brilliant book. I bought this as a lay person to understand how banking and the markets work. Its so well written and easy to follow. He really breaks things down so you can really understand, he does not use abbreviations without explaining them, and he guides you to comprehend everything. its clear he really knows banking and the markets and really teaches you. I've learned so much, and now can follow and understand the news and papers, and annual reports much better.

What Do You Know, An Economics Textbook...

Well, I am using this book for a course need for my Master's program. The book itself, is well, a book. However, it can be extremely dry (i know, surprise, surprise), but is an overall easy read. The book came packaged well and was in excellent condition. I would not recommend this book as a free-read, but if you need to purchase it for a course, this is probably your best option (price, shipping, and quality)!

About the Author
American born and raised and Parisian-adopted Carrie Solomon is one of France’s most well respected culinary photographers. Her work was awarded the 2011 Eugene Brazier prize for Saveurs Sauvages book of the year, and the laureate prize at the 2010 International Culinary Photography Festival.

Adrian Moore was born in Toronto and raised in the United States by British parents. He has written articles about culinary trends for a variety of international publications and is currently Assistant Chef Concierge at Mandarin Oriental, Paris. This is his first book.

By opening the fridges of some of Europe's most talented Chefs, Adrian Moore and Carrie Solomon may have opened a new era for culinary books. This original book is very well documented and features some stunning pictures. A must for any foodie this Christmas!

FUN FRIDGES

I bought this book as a gift for my mother and I'm giving it 5 stars because she is enjoying it so much. She is a fabulous cook and over the years I have enjoyed looking into her refrigerator to see what wonderful things she has stored in there. I thought she would like this look into other cooks' fridges. She does.

This is why I chose to be an Airline Pilot

This is the book that pushed me over the edge, prompting me to make my own journey from being an enthusiastic Private Pilot to becoming a Captain at a major airline, over the course of thirty years. This is Gann's autobiography and follows his amazing flying career, starting with his new-hire class at American Airlines during the 1930's. During World War II, he flies cargo missions across the Atlantic, and alsó in Asia across the Himalayas, usually tired, overloaded, in the most dreadful weather, with dead reckoning often the primary means of navigation.

It is a riveting true story that makes the reader feel like an invisible observer riding along on the jumpseat during countless flights, dealing with mechanical failures, perfect storms, colorful characters, and inevitable human error. Gann has a disarming honesty, disavowing any heroic mantle or superhuman airmanship. He is a highly skilled master of his craft, but he grimly comes to acknowledge that Fate or chance circumstance will often be the salvation of one man and his plane, or a cruel grim reaper to another, for no apparent reason.

Reading this book gives us a greater appreciation of the fine transport category aircraft we enjoy flying today, and the myriad ways safety has been enhanced. I have read it numerous times over the years, with new perspective as I had my own moments of elation or despair. Although written many years ago, the job and the circumstances of professional aviation still have a great deal in common with those long ago days. Many times I have thought of a situation from this book as I faced a similar hazard or situation. You will too. I am sure you will also become a better pilot by reading this book, and gain a greater appreciation of the flying pioneers who came before us. Who knows, it may inspire you to make the leap, as it did for me many years ago.

Second Thoughts on Aviation

Earnest K. Gann is a well known aviation writer and before that, a succesful pilot of airliners and military transports in the time period during, before, and after World War II. "Fate is the Hunter" is probably his best known book, and it deserves to be. Reading it, we are in the presence of a classic that can be read on at least two levels: as a drawn-out adventure story taking place over a period of years, studded with gems of aviation art from a period that now seems very long ago, or as a thoughtful reflection on danger and man's reaction to it, guided by a deep familiarity with the psychology of superstition.

From the first point of view, we get to see the near-collision with the Taj Mahal on takeoff, and the wild ride in ice-laden clouds over the Applachians that nearly brought down Capt. Gann's airliner in a time period when anti-ice equipment was primitive and instrument navigation in its infancy. Straddling the two points of view we have the Arctic adventure when a military transport with wounded coming back from Europe has to land on a frozen lake in Canada, in a region with so much natural magnetism that navigation systems of the day are useless, a region so vast that radio contact can only be made when the target has already been localized and the search aircraft is getting rather close to it. I'm remembering a movie of this that I saw in childhood, although I lack the online skills to find the name and date; but Mr. Gann's description of it is ever so much scarier.

As we read through the book, which is a fast, exciting read, we begin to see the second point of view. Like everything that humans perceive as very dangerous, early aviation had superstitions. Looking back on his career at a mature age, Capt. Gann names all his colleagues, pilots just as good as himself in all humility, and wonders why, after so many near misses, he is practically the only one still alive to tell the tale. He concludes, I believe, that there is a mysterious fate choosing its next victim like a Valkyrie flying in formation with each airplane. You can soar effortlessly above the clouds in godlike majesty for many hours, but someday this force will rear back and bite you. If you live you'll have a tale like Mr. Gann's to tell your grandchildren, and if you don't, it could be months before the search parties find what's left of your body.

Those of us who have learned to fly in "modern times" (say, after 1970?), and the general public as well, have little notion of how dangerous flying really is. We are taught that 80% (or something) of accidents are caused by pilot error, and if you follow procedures meticulously, "flying is safer than driving to the airport." (This is a familiar cliche now.)

Mr. Gann's book shows us this isn't true. Like everything, flying depends on humans to carry it out. Humans forget they have already loaded an airplane to capacity and fill the fuel tanks to capacity as well. Humans fail to tie down the cargo. Humans make navigational errors, or start an approach when the airport is below minimums because the wind was different than predicted and they don't have enough fuel to fly someplace else to land. Humans get a report from the stewardess that there is an unusual vibration coming from the rear and ignore it because they are scheduled to go on leave after this flight and want badly to get home.

Pilots will devour this book. But everyone, even those who don't give a d@#n about aviation and have never flown in their lives, should read it. When they have finished, they should re-think our present day delusion that we can make any technology safe that involves energy management (high speeds, high altitudes, high pressures or temperatures, explosive or flammable fuels). However, they also need to reflect that before aviation and automobiles, before railroads, one of the most common causes of death for healthy males in England was falls from horseback. (This is attested in Dr. Paul Johnson's book, "The Birth of the Modern: World Society 1815-1830.")

Danger is omnipresent in this world. When humans are aware enough of it to trigger our natural reaction, fear, we develop superstitions to help us cope. The reality might well be that it's mostly random, even after you've done everything right. But humans can't coldly face that unless they are very special. Earnest K. Gann was that kind of person, and his thoughts on danger are therefore relevant for the rest of us.

A must read!

The career of airline pilot seems like a relatively safe occupation in the current day and age, but nothing could be further from the truth in the earlier days of commercial air travel. Ernest Gann illustrates this fact in the telling of his own career journey, and leaves the reader with the impression that he was lucky to have survived his many close calls. In fact, we are all lucky that he survived to tell his story, because Gann's book is a fascinating read, and it's very well written. If you have an interest in aviation and/or 20th century American history, you will love this book!

Truth Spoken With Love - A Necessary Training Guide for Every Christian

A New Kind of Apologist is a compilation of 27 essays, each addressing a modern apologetic topic. This is not your standard apologetic tome, providing a comprehensive case for Christianity, or arguing against a specific cultural issue. Rather, the intention of this volume is to increase the effectiveness of anyone engaging in apologetics (i.e. parents, evangelists, apologists, church leaders, etc.), while demonstrating the importance of apologetics for every Christian. As such, this volume serves as a training guide for conducting apologetics, while providing a “crash course” in addressing relevant cultural topics.

Sean McDowell, the General Editor, outlines the purpose of the book, writing, “In this book, you will see the intersection between apologetics and important topics such as economics, politics, and race. You will learn how to tackle thorny matters of our day such as the transgender issue and religious liberty. You will gain a model for answering tough questions such as the exclusivity of Christ and new challenges to the Bible. And you will learn practical skills such as having apologetics conversations, asking good questions, using social media, and mentoring the next generation” (p.16).

Apologists are often seen as know-it-alls, with type-A personalities, always looking to argue, and prove others wrong. This book looks to break that trend, providing an apologetics approach that is nonabrasive, is more in line with biblical mandates, and remains uncompromised. The heart of McDowell and the other apologists is evident throughout the publication, as they show a great deal of compassion when addressing divisive issues, and recommend strategies to engage non-believers with warmth and love. Overall, this is a great book, and is highly recommended to every Christian, especially those engaged in apologetics, evangelism, and/or church leadership.

A New Kind of Apologist hits the Mark

Sean McDowell as general editor and his variety of contributors seek to establish that an effective Christian apologist needs to not just try and win an argument , but rather meet people where they are in order to present the truth of the Gospel to them. In his introduction Sean sets this tone by defining the characteristics of a modern apologist as humble, relational, studious and authentic.
I really enjoyed each contributing author. A lot of work was obviously done to make sure each chapter had a unique contribution to establishing Christian apologetics in a modern framework. I particularly enjoyed Holly Ordway and Lenny Esposito’s chapters that seek to show that apologetics don’t have to be dry. Rather, the story of Christianity can be established in storytelling and using movie experiences to relate better to modern audiences. After all, if Christianity is true, then its foundational truths can be discussed through a variety of life experiences and situations.
I must confess that Terry Glaspey’s chapter on intuitional apologetics didn’t hit home to me. However, in our postmodern world where many question whether truth exists at all, and are ruled more by their feelings than reason, it might ring particularly true.
Fine book for all that want to explore how to make their apologetic witness more relevant to today’s culture. For those interested in exploring Christianity further, it provides a wonderful sample of a variety of ways Christianity can be studied.

Good Introduction to Many Apologetics Topics

A New Kind of Apologist edited by Sean McDowell is a collection of essays addressing many of the challenges facing apologetics and apologists now. The chapters offer insights in such diverse topics as apologetics and economics, Islam, and sexuality. The chapters range from 2-14 pages and so are necessarily brief.

Several of the chapters are particularly insightful. For example, “Why We Should Love Questions More Than Answers” by Matthew Anderson notes that we need to be careful listeners when we take questions. It does no good to be able to answer questions if we are answering the wrong ones. The chapter “Telling the Truth about Sex in a Broken Culture” by John Stonestreet speaks to how the changing cultural climate regarding exposure to, consumption of, and even understanding of sexuality has changed such that we need to have a holistic biblical vision of human sexuality is another example of the broad perspectives this book offers on apologetics.

The topics in the book aren’t limited to some kind of ivory tower arguments (though I believe such arguments and books are very valuable); here, topics have direct application to life while maintaining an apologetic perspective. It’s a practical book, though it is necessarily brief on each topic that is covered. It provides more of a grab bag of ideas than well-developed approaches to the topics. Readers will be exposed to many different ideas, each with some insight on where to pursue further reading on the topic. The sheer breadth of issues touched upon make the book guaranteed to have something of interest for anyone even remotely concerned with apologetics. Method, Christian living, other religions, and a host of topics in between are covered. It’s an exciting book, as each chapter presents a new avenue for readers to explore.

An admirable aspect of the book is that it features several women’s voices. Too often, collections of apologetic essays do not have even one woman in the work. Here, there are several, including an excellent chapter by Holly Ordway on the use of imagination in apologetics and another chapter by Mary Jo Sharp that calls on women to be involved in aoplogetics.

Section breaks often feature interviews with prominent apologists, but the most intriguing of them are the interviews with atheists–including some who were once apologists. This provides a look at areas that some readers may never engage with–genuine interaction with atheists and an attempt to understand why the “other” believes as they do.

One area of critique is that some chapters persist in using “man” and “men” as descriptors for “human” and “humanity.” Although it is commonly argued that people just know that the latter is what is meant, precision of language as well as the real possibility of confusion suggests use of gender-neutral language ought to be preferred.

A New Kind of Apologist is an important, helpful book. It is just the kind of work that someone interested in apologetics should pick up as quickly as possible. It opens the reader up to several new topics, as well as new authors and ideas. It comes recommended.

Baruch Lev is professor of accounting and finance at New York University and the director of the Vincent C. Ross Project for Research on Intangibles. He is the award-winning author of several books and numerous research studies published in the leading accounting, finance, and economic journals.

Thoughtful Treatment of a Tremendous Problem

There is no larger controversy in accounting or investment circles today than the treatment of intangible assets. Economists and investment analysts may debate what is new about the "New Economy", but one thing remains clear, intangible assets are assuming a critical role in the creation of wealth.
Non-physical sources of value, intangible assets are generated by innovation, unique organizations and human resource practices. This asset class often interacts with tangible and financial assets to create shareholder value and stimulate economic growth. Yet they remain conspicuously absent from required disclosures.
Baruch Lev argues in this book that his lack of public information results in improved management of corporate assets contributes to a higher cost of capital and affords abnormally large gains to insiders at the expense of outside investors. To level the playing field, Lev proposes companies periodically release, in addition to the required income, balance sheet and cash flow statements, quantitative and standardized information most relevant to the company value chain or business model.
Specifically, he would require three classes of timely disclosure on what he calls the innovative and successful company's lifeline: Discovery and Learning, Implementation and Commercialization. Under Discovery and Learning, he would require disclosure of internal renewal, acquired capabilities and networks. For Implementation, required disclosures would include intellectual property, technological feasibility and Internet metrics. For Commercialization, required disclosures would include data on customers, performance and growth prospects.
These disclosures will transform the accounting profession from one that is essentially backward looking - how much was sold at what cost - to a forward looking - the creation of value enhancing assets. This recognizes that in the current knowledge-based economy, value creation or destruction precedes transactions, often by years.
Lev's proposed disclosures would compliment current disclosures, providing a reality check on the system of value creation or destruction as products, services and processes move along the value chain.

One side of the story

This book was published 2001 by Brookings as part of a pair; the other being Unseen Wealth

Lev's book comprised his view, whereas Unseen Wealth included about 20 views including Lev's

Lev is primarily concerned with helping the accounting industry fill its black hole; intangibles being the difference between market value and the tangibles that the 100 years rules of tangible accounting prescribe for. Formerly this blackhole was also known as goodwill.

The trouble is as the service and globally/locally networked economies compounded over the last quarter century, goodwill (or transparent trustflows of an organisation mapped in flows of productivities and demands and across to partnering organisations) became the larger dynamic explaining how most value compounds (both finacially and in human terms like learning, community, social progress that take more than 90 days to invest in and may have diverse views of development).

I dont find in Lev's book any answers to such issues as how to resolve the wicked assumptions that all tangible accounting revolve round. These include:

people are costs, only machines are investments

separate units, separate 90 day periods rather than want to map how they interact and compound in non-lonear ways

What is really needed for tracking, strategizing, transparently governing, leading, developing intangibles (and human relationships) is an opposite type of maths that value multiplies instead of separating out bottom lines as if everything in teh world adds up perfectly in 90 days periods. Whilst Unseen Wealth is clear about the magnitude of the Intangibles Crisis, Lev is not so clear. However, his work is the middleground and epicentre if you are looking at intangibles only from the perspective of what to do if you are intent on perpetuating the traditional accounting profession as nearly as possible as is.

With the collapse of dot coms and many other high tech companies, many wonder whether intangibles should also go by the wayside. In his book, Lev persuasively argues otherwise. In today's environment, in both old and new economy sectors, the only systematic and sustainable drivers of value and growth are intangible assets, such as patents, brands, unique supply and distribution processes, and human resource practices.
This landmark book represents the most comprehensive and thorough economic analysis of intangibles to date. Building on the author's high-impact research and first-hand experience working with executives, consultants, and regulators, the book offers a coherent framework for understanding the fundamental economics of intangible assets. Baruch Lev identifies attributes of intangibles that are different from tangible assets (property, plant, and equipment), by focusing on their distinctive role in value-creation. He highlights the most critical issue concerning intangibles: the need to make relevant information available to outsiders.
Perhaps the most difficult job in tackling a challenging issue, such as intangibles, is to recommend a practical solution. Baruch Lev proposes an information system, the Value Chain Scoreboard, to enhance information disclosure about intangibles. A notable feature of the system is its emphasis of key drivers in the creation of valuable intangible assets, as opposed to ex post measurement of performance. Although the focus is on improving external information communication, its mission of reflecting the valuation-creation process of intangibles makes the system potentially useful for managers who want to monitor the performance of investment in intangibles.
With a wonderful blend of real-world stories and easily understood economic reasoning, the book also has tremendous educational value, in a variety of business disciplines. It is an especially valuable source for those interested in learning about managing knowledge-based business.

Great start to a new series!

This was a great book and great start to a new series.mI really enjoyed the racing team aspect. The characters were engaging and I can't wait to read about the rest of the team finding their mates too. Ms. Jameson is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors!

Wow! I love it! Racing the Alpha is the first release in a brand spanking new series, Dirt Track Dogs by P. Jameson and it totally rocks! Reading a shifter story about dirt track racing is a first for me. Being from the deep south where we love our racing, I was immediately intrigued and actually, I live only two miles from our local speedway so you know I'm already a fan! And Jameson does not disappoint! The story is exciting, thrilling, fast paced, original, compelling, humorous, sweet, romantic and sexy. The dialogue is smart, well written and flows beautifully. And the characters, well, let's just say they are the heart and soul of this story. They are captivating, fascinating, engaging and endearing. They grab your imagination, capture your heart and hold you prisoner from beginning to end. Sexy wolf-shifter Drake Folsom is president of Cedar Valley's best dirt track racing club, the Dirt Track Dogs, and is alpha of his all male rag-tag pack. Yep, they may be rag-tag but they can race and what they do best is win and that's because they concentrate only on racing - no women - ever! Their complete committment has been instrumental in helping to heal them all from their tortured past so, if it ain't broke - don't fix fix it. No women! But Drake had never counted on the fiery, curvaceous, dark haired angel showing up at their club demanding to become a member of the Dirt Track Dogs. What the heck? Drake's immediate reaction to this human female was surprising even to him but his fate was sealed the moment he shook her hand. The impact of touching her skin was nothing short of electrical - she is his mate! She is human, right? Oh my! Beautiful Ella Freeman has really talked herself into a real jam this time. She has wagered her car in a three lap race against unbeatable Drake Folsom. What was she thinking? Her car is the only thing on this earth that she possesses and the only thing left from her deceased Dad. But if she can win, the Dirt Track Dogs will allow her to become a member of their club and they are the best. But can she win the race and Drake's heart? No spoilers her but I will say this......Beautiful, sassy female dirt track racer that may or may not be human-check! Handsome, sexy, virgin alpha wolf-check! Ooops! I may have just let a little spoiler slip out! Danger, drama, heartbreak, a very surprising plot twist and exciting dirt track racing-check! Heated attraction, fiery passion, sweet romance and some good lovin'-you bet! That and a whole lot more! I can hardly wait to read about Beast, Blister, Diz and Surge! And maybe we'll hear more about Punk and Annie too! This is a stand alone story with NO cliffhanger, so enjoy! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

Really, really enjoyed this first of a new series.

The h/ H along with the secondary characters were just fantastic. Now that I've read Drake and Ella's story of discovery, falling in love and their mating (along with dirt car racing) I look forward to the next one. Look out for Beast. I sure hope Blister's story will also be told.
