When his family duties allow, he spends his spare time outdoors with his two dogs Buck and Samson. He lives in the South Eastern part of the United States. As a youth, a family trip to Australia forever changed the course Paul would take on his way to return home to South Carolina to begin a family, raise dogs, and eventually write. For a year in high school, Paul headed back to Australia to study, and then again, during college he did the same. After finishing college, he headed to Africa to work with the Peace Corps. Paul’s family is dog lovers and often took in strays. Paul and his siblings were taught how to care and train the family pets and dogs. Both his parents grew up with many animals and had generational knowledge to pass forth to their offspring. Being reared around all sorts of animals, his curiosity to work with animals grew. Upon returning back to the U.S. and purchasing his own dog he realized he didn’t know as much as he could, thus began his journey into owning and full time dog training. Dog training is my passion. I love dogs, animals, and the wonders of nature. It is easy to write about your passion and share what you have learned and discovered. I've seen 'em all -- by and far, Dubin's book is the best!!

Over the last 25 years of my medical career, I have read just about every book published on EKG interpretation. As a full-time educator, I appreciate simplicity, especially when it is totally practical. Of all the texts I've seen, Dubin's "Rapid Interpretation of EKGs" is simply the best. He explains intricate concepts with simplistic beauty, using a unique programmed learning style and original figures. If you don't learn "all there is to know" about EKGs from this book, you will never really understand them the rest of your career... Mikel A. Dr. Dubin's book is a learning masterpiece!

Usually I'm not one to write reviews or comments. Although a physician, I never properly mastered EKG's. Initially I was very discouraged by a book touted to be "the only EKG book you'll ever need" (very deceptive). I was advised to get Dr. Dubin's text, which I believe to be the world's best seller. What a serendipitous surprise! This book is so easy to follow and digest, giving me an immediate grasp of practical concepts and in-depth understanding of cardiac physiology. Never have I been so pleased with a medical textbook and useful knowledge that it provides.

This was a great book! I am a nursing student and I was a little intimidated at first because I was afraid that a book written by a doctor on the subject matter would be to complex, however he made it very plain and simple. If I can understand Ekg interpretation, anyone can!

About the Author
Trevor Kletz, OBE, D.Sc., F.Eng., a process safety consultant, has published more than a hundred papers and nine books on loss prevention and process safety, including most recently Lessons From Disaster: How Organizations Have No Memory and Accidents Recur and Computer Control and Human Error. His experience includes thirty-eight years with Imperial Chemical Industries Ltd., where he served as a production manager and safety adviser in the petrochemical division, and membership in the department of chemical engineering at Loughborough University, Leicestershire, England. He is currently senior visiting research fellow at Loughborough University and an officer of the Order of the British Empire.

Involved in safety?You should read T.A.Kletz!

I am surprised to see so few reviews for T.A.Kletz books.

If you are dealing with potentially hazardous installations or systems, and not only if you are an engineer, you should read some Kletz. Allways hinging his books around his very message, T.A.Kletz constantly gives interesting practical examples and fine advice, from his 40 years own experience. He 'dismounts' accidents, their causes, superficial and underlying down to the detail. He shows the different aspects of human/organisational responsibility in accidents and their prevention. After going through one of his books, "human error" never reads the same again. In "Learning from Accidents", he does follow that methodology for about ten famous accidents, various generic accidents and many incidents. He shows how major accidents come out of sequences of minor defficiencies and are helped by sleeping faults, poor management, poor procedures, poor incident reporting,... poor design... and poor remembrance of previous accidents/incidents.

If we don't learn from our mistakes, why bother making them?

Different and Better

I have reviewed, read and used practically hundreds of jazz methods and I can honestly say that NONE of them are like How to Improvise. Where other authors overly concern themselves with which scale to play on which chord or memorizing ii V I licks in every key, Crook teaches us how to play music.

Each chapter deals with a different musical aspect such as pacing, phrase lengths, time, dynamics and articulation. There's a text description of each topic followed by a comprehensive regime of exercises dealing specifically with that topic.

A lot of what's wrong with the jazz playing of young musicians could easily be fixed with this one book. I know it made a huge impact in my playing and my career. With Crook's book, I was able to take all of the technique I learned from other books and turn it into something people actually like to listen to. For that, I can't thank him enough.

Terrific Resource!

Hal Crook's "How to Improvise" is an absolutely indispensable resource for developing jazz vocabulary and improvisation. Although he presumes a certain amount of basic knowledge of jazz theory, Hal's jazz exercises are terrific and well organized. Learning how to improvise is often an overwhelming process, and beginning jazz players find it hard to take a structured approach to learning jazz. This is the best resource I have seen - it is comprehensive! Buy it now, don't wait 5 years (like I did) to save the $25 only to come back to it. Another jazz resource I would recommend is Jamey Abersold's "Turnarounds: Vol. 16," which is a great way to learn to improvise over chord changes in all keys.

Don't let the title fool you, lots of great stuff in here for anyone of all levels. Not just what it has to go over (great stuff), also a schedule and how to go about it. That's how things get done and gauge results.
