Information by a master to help you understand the I Ching

During the dark days of 1943 in Japanese occupied Peking a small community of German speaking people who didn't associate in any way with the remainder of the German community there congregated occasionally in the home of Wilhelm Haas, explains Hellmut Willhelm in the preface of this book. The members of the group were almost entirely unfamiliar with the I Ching.
In their midst, however, was one of the foremost non-Chinese I Ching scholars alive, Wilhelm. Hass asked him to give a few lectures to the group to help them understand the history, use and concepts behind the I Ching.
As an introduction to the Book of Changes by a master these eight lectures cover an enormous amount of ground in an easy, understandable way. The translations from German to English by Cary F. Baynes are, as always, excellent.
I'd recommend this book as an accompanyment to the Baynes or Richard John Lynn translations of the Book of Changes, certainly. But for anyone using the I Ching in any translation, whatever the level of scholarship, this book will probably be a source of useful information you didn't have before.

An Introduction to Cardiovascular Physiology

As a physiologist, educator, and author, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this excellent, cutting-edge textbook. For example, in the explanation of the mechanism of fluid transport in the microcirculation, this textbook provides a well-documented rationale for a revised Starling Principle. The text is organized into 18 chapters and two appendices. Each chapter is well illustrated and contains many color graphics that enhance the presentation of the materials for ease of comprehension, making it appropriate for beginner and advanced students as well as practitioners. A very useful addition is the access to web resources and research papers. This is an excellent textbook and I would highly recommend it to those interested in studying cardiovascular physiology.

Excellent book--but no glossary

I recently used this book for a cardiovascular physiology class. It was very good. Unlike many science books, it seems the author can not only describe the material accurately, but he can write too! The only pitfall was a lack of a glossary.

so the diagrams were fairly dull and boring

I purchased this book for an upper level Cardiopulmonary Physiology class I took last semester. We used it for the heart and vessels sections for half of a semester (before moving onto lungs).
Pros:
1. The book was fairly well organized and consistent in chapter layouts
2. There were objectives at the beginning and a review section at the end of each chapter
3. The figures were fairly helpful and the figure keys were thorough
Cons:
1. The book was a drag to read at times I would catch myself falling asleep reading it all the time
2. The writer would go into extreme detail on some of the basics and then glaze over the harder concepts.
3. The book mostly only contained red and black ink, so the diagrams were somewhat lackluster and boring.
4. The book should have been priced cheaper because it was made cheap (but what is college without the overpriced books?)

When my son was born, I went looking for the perfect automotive children's book to share my love of cars with him. I couldn't find what I was looking for, so I decided to create it.
The Little Red Racing Car is a father and son story about a very special car, a real car, the Maserati® 300S. It was a winning racing car in the 50's and a favorite of a legendary driver by the name of Sir Stirling Moss.
While the story itself is fiction, it is full of truth and history. Part way through writing the book, Sir Stirling even lent his name to the story - and incredible kindness.
And inside the back cover, you'll find a completely accurate blueprint drawing of the 300S, which I've created complete with the specs of the car, and even the long lost mark of Carrosserie Fantuzzi, the Italian coach-builder that made the bodies for Maserati. The Fantuzzi mark is a story of its own, one that took weeks of research to track down, even with the help of the world's leading Maserati expert.

Made in USA, great for car nuts!

I've been looking for a book to share with my newborn son and found this - I was skeptical at first someone could make a father-son story for a car nut like myself, but once I saw how enthusiastic the author was, I had to have it. Additionally, the author took the time to advertise that the book is printed in the USA on US sourced paper. A double win! The book has a great story and illustrations. It even comes with some stickers and a "Certificate of Title" for the books owner. Really creative! Lastly, I first saw about this book on a Facebook advertisement - after commenting how thrilled I was about ordering the book, the author personally thanked me. You don't see that type of service often these days and it doesn't go unnoticed.

Entertained with my nostalgia

I remember how pleased I was when race cars looked like this. I enjoyed them in my imagination, since I was too young to drive. When I was around
even more exciting vehicles, my enthusiasm waned. Race cars like this still
spark my imagination in ways that later ones do not. Same with the later
race drivers. Finally, I shared my enthusiasm with my father.

Delightful daydream

What boy hasn't daydreamed of driving a racecar? How about finding such a car in the barn when your family moves?
What father hasn't envisioned a father-son joint hobby, where the car is restored, everything works and there's no disagreements, ever?
The illustrations are fun, there's real racing history subtly taught, and it's a car guy's dream. If only life was really like this....
